Hogan's Creek Missionary Baptist Church will
soon be celebrating it's 200th Anniversary as an organized
Baptist Church. The church first started meeting in 1806 in the newly formed
town of Carthage as an arm of Dixon Creek Baptist Church. It was organized
on Saturday June 30th, 1810 making it one of the oldest churches
in this area. They soon built a meeting house and met at the “Mouth of the
Caney Fork”, later moving on to the present location on Hogan's Creek. Early
church members consisted of some of the early founders and leaders of
Carthage, newly arrived families from states such as North Carolina and
Virginia, as well as a number of slaves.
On Saturday June 26th at 4:00 P.M. we will be meeting for a
Celebration Service remembering the past and thanking the Lord for his
blessings on the Church for the past 200 years. This service will be
followed by a fellowship meal at our outdoor picnic shelter.
